Malcolm in the Middle is receiving a long-awaited reboot, but there’s a reason why Dewey may not return.
That’s correct.
Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek broke the news in a video uploaded on social media on December 13, and fans went crazy.
With Frankie Muniz poised to resume his role as Malcolm after 18 years, what more could fans want for?
Perhaps, Dewey?
Unfortunately, it does not appear that this will occur.
While we all enjoyed watching the dysfunctional family negotiate life 25 years ago, it just won’t be the same.
Muniz, who has previously spoken about the reprising role, stated: “I have been waiting for this moment for 18 years. Let’s find out where Malcolm and his family are now.”
With four new episodes commissioned by Disney+, Malcolm and his daughter are thrown back ‘into the family’s upheaval when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party,’ which will provide the closure we all require.
However, Kaczmarek has claimed that Erik Per Sullivan may not be interested in being reintroduced into the spotlight.
The US actress explained why fans haven’t heard much from the now-33-year-old since the show’s finale.
“He’s well, he’s very, very well,” she said.
“He did Malcolm for seven years, he started at seven, he ended at 14. He wasn’t interested in acting, at all.
“He goes to school at a very prestigious American university that he’s asked us all to be quiet about and he loves Charles Dickens.
“He’s doing graduate work in Victorian literature. I admire it because so many people think being in show business is the greatest thing in the world, it’s not for everyone.”
Even Muniz has replied to concerns about what happened to his co-star, and he has provided an honest answer.
Essentially, he’s not sure.
“To be honest, I don’t know what he’s up to,” he explained. “I hate to say that because I’ve talked to him a few times since the show ended.
“I’ve talked to his parents a lot. When I was in the band, we went and played in the city where he lives and his parents came to the show but unfortunately he couldn’t make it.
“So I got to talk to them, and he’s been all over doing a lot of different things.
“But one thing I know, some actors or some people just got to do it when they were a kid and then they wanted to experience other things and kind of live a more normal life out of the spotlight.
“I think that’s what he wanted to do so good for him.”
Regarding the remake, the actors involved are ecstatic to return to the chaotic world, with Cranston, who went on to break the norm with his Breaking Bad character Walter White, saying he couldn’t wait to get back to it.
Kaczmarek added: “What a delight I get to yell at that kid again!
“We’re very excited about coming back together and seeing what this family has been up to.”
