Prince William was quick on his feet when a student questioned his royal status during a recent school visit
The Prince of Wales knew just what to say when a student asked about his royal status.
Prince William, 42, had a diplomatic reply when a young boy named Mohammed asked if he was “the King” during a recent outing to a school.
On Jan. 23, Prince William traveled to the Toxeth area of Liverpool in order to meet community groups working to support young people in the local area as he and the pupil had the cute exchange.
“Hello, are you the King?” a young boy asked the Prince of Wales in a video shared on X by St. Nicholas Catholic Academy.
“No, I’m not, no. I’m his son,” Prince William replied, referring to King Charles.
Something to brighten up your day!!!
So… one of our amazing year 5 Children managed to not only have a chat with @KensingtonRoyal Prince William, he also managed to get a selfie!#Appetiteforchange@StJosephCMAT pic.twitter.com/Y4aEXAI5Jp— St Nicholas Catholic Academy (@stnicsliv) January 28, 2025
Prince William then pivoted to ask the boy about himself.
“What’s your name? Mohammed. How are you, Mohammed? Nice to see you. Did you have a good day at school?” William said. The Prince of Wales is a pro at connecting with kids, perhaps drawing from his experience as a dad to Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, whom he shares with wife Kate Middleton.
A close look at the video showed that someone offscreen appeared to remove Mohammed’s hat on the gray day, which made William laugh.
“Don’t worry. He needs it on to keep his ears warm. It’s cold out here, it’s very cold today,” the Prince of Wales told someone in the crowd, rubbing his hands for warmth and turning to meet other young students.
Also, St. Nicholas Catholic Academy shared a sweet video of Prince William and Mohammed saying “cheese” in a short selfie-style video together.
“Something to brighten up your day!!!” the school wrote below the set of videos on Jan. 28. “So… one of our amazing year 5 Children managed to not only have a chat with @KensingtonRoyal Prince William, he also managed to get a selfie!”
Prince William and his wife Princess Kate, 43, appeared to have embraced the selfie trend in recent years, posing for the pictures when people ask. The Prince and Princess of Wales are also known for their warm way with kids, often squatting to chat with small children to make direct eye contact at their level.
William’s question for Mohammed about his school day called back to another confession the royal dad made in Toxeth involving his own children’s education.
As per Hello!, students from Princes Primary School and English Martyrs Catholic Primary School told William that they couldn’t remember what they had learned in school, and he said that his kids relayed the same thing.
“I ask my children this every day, and they always say absolutely nothing at all,” William joked about George, Charlotte and Louis.
Prince William and his wife Princess Kate’s three children all attend the Lambrook School near their home in Windsor, and the family recently jetted to spend their current half-term break on the private Caribbean island of Mustique. The island is a favorite escape for the Wales family, who have been vacationing there for years.
