Trump slammed for posting ‘vi:le’ video on Truth Social depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys

A post shared on Truth Social by President Donald Trump has sparked backlash after it included an edited video portraying former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as monkeys.

The controversy centers on a video Trump reposted that begins as a serious clip from the Patriot News Outlet. The video references claims about a Michigan investigation into voting technology used in the 2020 presidential election — an election Trump has repeatedly alleged was rigged, despite a lack of evidence supporting those claims.

For most of its one-minute runtime, the video appears to feature a straightforward interview. However, in the final seconds, it abruptly shifts tone. The song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” begins playing, and an edited image shows Barack and Michelle Obama’s faces superimposed onto monkey bodies in a jungle setting.

Many social media users condemned the imagery, calling it ra:cist and offensive.

Critics described the post as “vile” and said it represented a new low. Some individuals who previously supported Trump expressed regret, while others accused him of promoting harmful and divisive content.

At the same time, some supporters defended the post, praising Trump and repeating concerns about election integrity and voting systems.

The White House responded to the criticism.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told LADbible Group that the video was an internet meme depicting Trump as the “King of the Jungle” and Democrats as characters from The Lion King. She dismissed the backlash as “fake outrage” and urged media outlets to focus on issues more relevant to the American public.

In the 2020 presidential election, Joe Biden received approximately 51.3 percent of the vote, defeating Trump, who received a slightly smaller share nationwide.
