When Kate Middleton revealed her canc3r diagnosis to the public in March of last year, it sent compression wave through the nation — All eyes were on her, with people requiring her full recovery and eagerly awaiting her return to public life.
However, even a year and a half later, Kate, who published in September of last year that she’s cancer-free, hasn’t fully restarted her royal duties.
Back in September, the Princess of Wales shared in a video: “As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment.”
She added that it had been a “grueling” year and that “life as we know it can transform in an instant.” Further, she depicted the “stormy waters” of canc3r as something “complicated, frightening, and erratic.”
“With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything,” Kate commented.
Since then, the beloved princess has made numerous public appearances, including last year’s and this year’s Trooping the Colour.
According to a source, Kate Middleton plans to handle her comeback to public life differently.
“Cancer impacts on your perspective, and what you have seen in the decisions they have made over the last year is that family and their children continue to be at the center of their universe,” a source told royal correspondent Rebbeca English.
“Both Their Royal Highnesses have a strong commitment to duty, service, and using their platform for good. But what they are working on is ways they can balance themselves as parents with being the Prince and Princess of Wales.”
Another source commented: “Everyone is adjusting the dial.”
A close friend of the princess added: “As Catherine herself said, she’s looking forward to the future with hope and a new appreciation of life. She has also had little choice but to take a step back and focus on herself, which inevitably has led her to reassess where their priorities lie.”
Kate did not attend the Royal Ascot, however she did accompany her family to Trooping the Colour.
According to the Daily Mail, the princess is “quite strict” about her public appearances.
Regardless of how much she enjoys dedicating herself to her royal duties, she is attempting to strike the appropriate balance in her life.
“She’s quite strict now at working out what she needs to be at and what she doesn’t. And people forget that even if they aren’t seeing her in public, she is very hands-on behind the scenes with the team in the office. She has her own projects to pursue, such as her early years initiative. That’s a lifelong commitment for HRH,” a source told Daily Mail.
