Cats and dogs are stereotypically considered sworn enemies, as in the old phrase “fighting like cats and dogs,” however many pet owners will tell you that these animals may get along fine and be best friends.
When things get perilous, they support one another. That was the case lately, when one cat battled off two predators to save her dog sister.
Lane Dyer of Edmond, Oklahoma, has two pets: a small white 6-year-old Havanese puppy named Oakley and a black cat named Binx, who appeared as a stray when she was two months old, according to KFOR.
Dyer told the outlet that the two animals were “polar opposites,” yet they nonetheless got along like family, a closeness recently demonstrated when one became entangled in a life-threatening situation.
On November 30, Oakley was released into the yard to use the restroom when a coyote approached and mauled the small dog. Oakley was overwhelmed by the wild beast, and when another coyote appeared, it appeared that Oakley was doomed.
But then an unlikely hero stepped in to save the day: Binx darted towards the coyotes, scaring them away from their attack and forcing them to withdraw.

Oakley was left in horrible shape after the accident, with “gushing blood” from her chest and sides.
The Dyers hurried her to a neighboring hospital; initially, veterinarians believed they would have to amputate the dog’s leg, but the limb was saved.
With Oakley on her way to full recovery, the owners reviewed the security footage and discovered their cat’s life-saving heroism. Lane Dyer described the rescue as “the craziest thing ever” and praised Binx for saving her canine sibling.
“I was kind of inspired by it, quite frankly,” he told KFOR. “It was inspiring to see just our little outdoor cat just jump at two coyotes that were attacking this little dog who she loves and run them off.”
We’re so thrilled Oakley is alive and well, due to his brave cat sibling Binx! Thank you for tackling these wild coyotes and saving the day!
