Following her appearance alongside dad Prince William at the UEFA Women’s Euros Final last night, Princess Charlotte has supposedly set tongues wagging for one, very specific reason.
The royal pair rocked up to Switzerland’s St Jakob‑Park in Basel on Sunday (27 Jul) to watch England’s Lionesses steal victory against fellow finalists Spain following a nail-biting penalty shootout.
The triumph also witnessed the girls become the first ever team to defend their Euros win since the female version of the tournament kicked off back in 1984, having beaten Germany at London’s Wembley Stadium three years ago.
Naturally, the high-stakes match witnessed a vast plethora of huge-name stars making appearances in the stands, including Royal Family members from both England and Spain.
Princess Leonor and Infanta SofÃa encouraged Spain, whilst 43-year-old Prince William and his daughter, Princess Charlotte, supported the Lionesses.
The 10-year-old could be seen donning a sweet polka-dot dress and white cardigan for her major public appearance, and was captured several times throwing her arms into the air to honor England clinching an equaliser following Spain’s first-half 1-0 lead.
Charlotte also attended with her father – the patron of England’s Football Association – on the pitch later in the evening, where the pair handed out medals to the winning ladies.
As we say, much has been said about the Princess’ appearance in Switzerland – but more so than ever before, fans ostensibly spotted a keen resemblance between Charlotte and other member of the monarchy this time around.
Taking to Twitter, one user commented: “Oh my word! Charlotte looks like the late Queen Elizabeth here.”
Another added: “Princess Charlotte has the powerful and piercing gaze of her grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth.”
“Princess Charlotte looks so much like the late Queen Elizabeth ll when she was young,” a third agreed, as a fourth went on: “I’ve always thought Charlotte looks like the late Queen. She has her smile and her steely gaze.
“She will be a force to be reckoned with when she gets older.”
Sadly, however, a number of critics concurrently noted that two prominent royal figures weren’t there.
Despite Charlotte’s 12-year-old big brother Prince George being a known football fan, the Wales’ opted to maintain him and brother Prince Louis, seven, at home with mum Kate – much to the dismay of some viewers.
One X user commented: “Where’s Prince George, who is a huge England football fan? Is the women’s game not equal to the men’s then?”
“Again Prince William sending the message that women’s football is not real football; it’s football for girls,” another pointed out.
“He’s never taken Charlotte to a men’s game, just George. Unlike Felipe, who takes Infanta Sofia to men’s games as well.”
