In this article, we want to introduce you all the many properties of rue and how to get the most out of it.
This dry-zone plant is aromatic, with yellow-green leaves and small flowers, and adapts well to the Mediterranean climate. It’s existed in many homes and gardens because its strong scent repels insects.
For example, the Romans cultivated it and took it with them when visiting a prisoner, believing it could cure the evil eye. Meanwhile, the Chinese applied it to counteract evil thoughts.
Witches used it to protect themselves from spells and heal the sick. The Hebrews, Egyptians, and Chaldeans thought the face was a gift from their gods, considering it sacred.
In America, Native Americans used rue to create love spells. It’s been said that you can win a person’s heart forever by placing a sprig under the moonlight and then giving it to your loved one.

How to plant rue
It’s said that rue is much more potent than a piece taken from someone else’s garden and planted in the ground by the person who intends to use it, because its energy resides in the leaves. If you want to plant it, you must follow these steps.
- Do not do this if you are in a foul mood, unhappy, angry, or agitated, as this will convey negative energy to the plant.
- If you are a woman, you cannot plant them during your menstrual period.
- If you plant rue just out of curiosity and suspicion of its virtues, you will not see results.
- Allow it enough time, but not too much, to sunbathe while you water it.
There are currently two known types of rue. The first is considered male, with large leaves. The one with small leaves is considered female. Male rue should be planted on the left side of the garden, and female rue on the right. It should be noticed that excessive consumption of rue can be toxic. To prepare rue tea, use a maximum of 12 leaves per liter of water. Boil it and let it steep for 10 minutes. Finally, refine the combination and drink two glasses throughout the day.
