An elderly woman arrived at church early one Sunday morning.
As she stepped inside, a cheerful usher greeted her with a smile.
“Good morning, ma’am! Where would you like to sit?”
She answered without hesitation.
“I’d like a seat in the very front row.”
The usher looked a little uncomfortable.
He leaned in and whispered,
“Honestly, ma’am… you might not want to do that.”
She looked puzzled.
“Why not?”
He lowered his voice even more.
“Our pastor has a habit of preaching very… very… long sermons.”
“To be honest, he might put you to sleep. Let me find you a more comfortable seat.”
The woman stared at him for a moment.
Then calmly asked,
“Young man… do you have any idea who I am?”
The usher swallowed.
“No, ma’am.”
She smiled and replied,
“I’m the pastor’s mother.”
The poor usher instantly turned pale.
After an awkward silence, he cleared his throat and asked,
“Well… ma’am…”
“Do you know who I am?”
She shook her head.
“No, I don’t.”
The usher let out the biggest sigh of relief in his life.
He grinned and said,
“Thank God!” 😂
