Maria, a young live-in maid for a wealthy couple, decided it was time to ask her boss, Mrs. Darcy, for a well-deserved raise.
Mrs. Darcy was highly annoyed by the request. “And why exactly do you think you deserve more money, Maria?”
“Well, Señora, I have three very good reasons,” Maria replied calmly. “First, I iron clothes much better than you do.”
Mrs. Darcy scoffed, “Oh really? And who told you that?”
“Your husband did,” Maria answered.
Mrs. Darcy bit her lip, caught off guard. “Oh… I see.”
“Second,” Maria continued, “I am a far better cook than you are.”
“Nonsense!” Mrs. Darcy snapped. “Who on earth said you’re a better cook than me?”
“Your husband did,” Maria smiled.
Mrs. Darcy shifted uncomfortably, her temper flaring. “Oh… right.”
“And finally,” Maria whispered, “I am a much better lover in bed than you are.”
Furious and bracing herself for proof of an affair, Mrs. Darcy bolted upright. “Let me guess! My husband told you that too?!”
Maria grinned ear to ear and shook her head. “Oh, no, Señora. The gardener told me. Now, about that raise…?”
