The Pastor’s New Dog
A pastor bought a new dog that was raised by a deeply religious family. The previous owner told the pastor, “This dog is very special. He only obeys commands that are church-related. If you want him to sit, you have to say ‘Let us pray.’ If you want him to run, you have to say ‘Praise the Lord.’ And if you want him to stop, you must say ‘Amen’.”
The pastor was delighted and decided to take the dog for a walk in the woods behind the church. To test the dog, the pastor yelled, “Praise the Lord!”
Instantly, the dog took off running at an incredible speed. After a few minutes, the pastor yelled, “Let us pray!” The dog immediately stopped and sat down quietly. The pastor was amazed and thrilled.
Suddenly, a giant grizzly bear jumped out from behind the bushes and started charging toward them. Terrified, the pastor panicked and forgot the commands. He began running for his life, with the dog running right beside him.
The bear was gaining on them fast. The pastor realized he couldn’t outrun the beast, so he fell to his knees and decided to say his final prayer: “Dear Lord, please protect me from this danger. I place my soul in your hands. Amen!”
The moment the pastor said “Amen”, the dog stopped dead in his tracks, sat down, and stayed perfectly still.
The pastor looked back, expecting the worst. However, right at that moment, the bear skidded to a halt right in front of the dog. The bear looked confused, slowly dropped to its knees, closed its eyes, put its paws together, and said in a deep voice: “Dear Lord, thank you for this food we are about to receive…”
