The Drunk Man Asked One Simple Question… The Pastor Regretted His Answer
A pastor gets onto a public bus and sits down next to a heavily intoxicated man. The man is completely disheveled, has lipstick stains all over his face, an empty bottle of gin sticking out of his coat, and is reading a newspaper.
After a few minutes of silent reading, the drunk man turns to the pastor and asks slurringly, “Hey mister, do you know what causes arthritis?”
The pastor decides this is the perfect moment to deliver a stern moral lesson. He glares at the man and says righteously, “It is caused by loose living, hanging out with chea@p women, drinking too much alcohol, and a complete lack of respect for God and your fellow man!”
The drunk man blinks, mutters, “Wow, that’s crazy,” and goes right back to reading his newspaper.
The pastor instantly feels guilty for being so harsh. He looks at the man’s messy appearance, softens his tone, and says, “I am sorry if I sounded mean. How long have you been suffering from arthritis?”
The drunk man looks up, confused, and replies, “Oh, I don’t have arthritis. I was just reading this article in the newspaper. It says the Pope was just diagnosed with it this morning.”
