I brought my boyfriend home, and my dog started acting weird, barking at him and jumping on the spot: and then I found out the reason for the dog’s strange behavior
A few weeks ago, I met a young man. Nice, charming, attentive – as if he had come from the pages of a novel. He gave me flowers for no reason, wrote kind messages every morning, courted me beautifully and subtly. I was sure – this is him. My man.
We had already met at his house several times, and when he offered to come to my place next time, I agreed without hesitation. I live alone, except for my dog - a kind and calm dog who has never barked at anyone, not even at the postman.
When we entered the yard, the dog literally went crazy. He began to bark loudly, press his ears and jump on the spot. I was confused. This had never happened before.
– She didn’t like your energy, – I joked, trying to defuse the situation.
My boyfriend smiled tightly, but I saw how tense he was.
– Maybe you should take him away? You never know… he might bite again, – he muttered.
– Don’t be afraid, he’s not like that. Maybe he just doesn’t like your perfume, – I said and took the dog into the house. I locked him in the kitchen so he wouldn’t get in the way. But the dog wouldn’t stop – he scratched the door, howled, barked as if he sensed danger.
My boyfriend said he felt uncomfortable, that he couldn’t stay, and… left.
After that, he disappeared. He didn’t answer calls or messages. Not a word. He just disappeared.
And a week later, I learned something terrible and that’s when the reason for my dog’s strange behavior became clear to me.
A few days later, I saw him on the news. He was arrested. He was under the influence of heavy substances, got behind the wheel and hit a person on a crosswalk.
I stood there with the phone in my hands, turning white with horror.
And only one question was spinning in my head: what would have happened if my dog hadn’t smelled it?
If he had stayed with me? If I had gone to bed and he had ended up in his reality?
Since then, I no longer doubt the instincts of animals.
Sometimes they know much more than we do.
