Brian sat at the local bar, staring deeply into his beer mug, looking completely miserable. He finally turned to his best friend, Mike, and sighed, “The spark is gone from my marriage, man. The romance is dead. It’s just completely flat.”
Mike took a sip of his drink and offered some radical advice. “Look, why don’t you spice things up a bit and have an affair?”
Brian gasped, instantly panicked. “Are you crazy? What if my wife finds out? She’ll ruin my life!”
Mike waved his hand dismissively. “Come on, it’s the modern era, Brian. Communication is key! Just be completely honest and transparent with her about it.”
Taking his friend’s terrible advice to heart, Brian built up his courage, went straight home, and found his wife reading on the couch. He sat down next to her, took her hand, and said with total sincerity, “Honey, I’ve been thinking about our relationship. I really believe that if I had an affair, it might actually bring us closer together and save our marriage.”
His wife didn’t even look up from her book. She just turned the page and replied flatly:
“Don’t waste your time, dear. I’ve already tried that twice—it doesn’t work.”
