A Highway Patrol officer pulled over an elderly woman who was driving at a dangerously slow 10 mph on a busy highway.
Walking up to the vehicle, the officer noticed the driver was perfectly calm, but her three elderly passengers looked absolutely paralyzed with terror, clutching the armrests for dear life.
“Ma’am,” the officer said, leaning into the window, “driving 10 mph on a highway is a major hazard. Why are you going so slow?”
The old lady smiled sweetly and pointed to a sign on the side of the road. “But officer, I was just obeying the speed limit. The sign says 10.”
The officer chuckled. “Ma’am, that’s not the speed limit sign. That’s the route marker. You are on Interstate 10.”
“Oh, my goodness, how silly of me!” she giggled.
Amused by the honest mistake, the officer decided to let her off with a warning. However, curiosity got the better of him. “Before you go, ma’am… why are your friends in the back looking so utterly traumatized?”
The old lady smiled cheerfully and replied, “Oh, don’t mind them. They’ll calm down soon—we just got off Interstate 175.”
